The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a Fresh Divinity, Declaring it Their Biggest RPG Yet

The anticipation surrounding the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The mystery has been revealed. Larian Studios is creating a fresh Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer that included striking imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal opening of infernal gates.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio warned that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words implies that the team might be crafting a real-time experience rather than another turn-based title. For now, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it sparked the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, branching plots, and flexible progression—traits that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities you can achieve by choosing a distinct build with a specific history of choices.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, allowing players to experiment both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be approached in diverse methods, sometimes in lateral fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is these creative systems that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can anticipate another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
